Welcome to Alloway Bowling Club for 2024
The club was formed when the site was redeveloped as a multi-use sports club in 1997. It will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2024. The club prides itself on being a relaxed and friendly one – with the accent on fun. We are now one of the only clubs in Scotland who has BOWLS SCOTLAND silver award demonstrating our commitment to developing the sports in a constructive, inclusive and friendly way.
We have about equal number of men and women. Ladies and gents, all bowl together without segregation and there is no formal dress or uniform on the green. This is one of the only clubs which works this way, which makes us unique. We welcome members of all standards and would seek to develop them to enjoy the sport. There are some serious competitions which will be of benefit to experienced bowlers.
The season runs from early/mid-April to mid/late September. Each week there are 5 regular sweeps: Sunday and Thursday afternoons, and three on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. These are all open events with random playing partners and opponents. Along with this we have season long competitions, Day cup competitions, charity events, and local friendly matches with other clubs, something to suit everyone. We are proud of our efforts for local charities which are well, supported and received. We now also have a regular meeting in winter at Ayr Indoor Bowling club. There are also social and fund-raising events throughout the year.
Beginners are more than welcome; we have members of all abilities and one of our key aims is to develop the sport. Tuition is provided, free of charge and all equipment is provided. This can be individual training or group training whatever you require. There is a training day every Tuesday afternoon at which all are welcome. We are developing and offering a structured training programme to introduce people to Bowls. This will take the form of a 6 week programme. We cater for people with restrictions and disabilities and can provide aids to ensure anyone can fully participate in the sport.
Anyone wishing to join would be warmly received and with matches throughout the week, there are many opportunities to play and then join with other members in the Clubhouse afterwards for a well-deserved refreshment and brag about your prowess on the green. This gives you many opportunities to meet new friends.
Application forms and fee details are available on this website or contact the Membership Secretary on [email protected]
