Over 50s Walking Football - Cambusdoon Sports Club - Every Wednesday 7:30pm
History of Walking Football
There are now more than 800 walking football clubs across the UK. Originally conceived in 2011 by the Chesterfield FC Community Trust, walking football aims to inspire the over 50s to get out of their armchairs and back into exercise.
How Does it Work?
Quite simply, it is football without running that more closely resembles the five-a-side than 11-a-side game. A free-kick is awarded whenever players break the walking rule. Other rules include, max 3 touches of the ball before release, free kicks are indirect, kick-ins replace throws, no tackling from behind, there are no offsides nor sliding tackles and the ball must be kept below head height
Purpose
It is accessible to anyone who is 50 or over. Walking Football is designed to help people keep an active lifestyle, as well as getting those back playing football who had to stop due to injuries. The slower nature of the game allows older players to return to a sport they once loved – but have had no means to get back involved or methods of finding like-minded people. It also is a chance for participants to be able to kick a football again and re-live their years of being part of a team.
How Can I Play?
Over 50 and want to try it? Then come along to our new 3G pitch at Cambusdoon Sports Club at 7:30pm on a Wednesday when a regular weekly 1 hr session is held and give it a go. Your first session is free! These sessions are open to both members and non-members alike and a warm welcome awaits you. Afterwards you are welcome to retire to the clubhouse bar for a refreshment.
